Quito Stop-Over Tour 3 Days / 2 Nights - Daily Departures Quito, the charming capital of Ecuador, is the originating point for the morning flights to the Galapagos Islands. We at Galapagos Legend, have created this special stop-over to be either a pre or post extension to your Galapagos cruise vacation. It gives you an optimal experience to see Ecuador's part of the "Andes Region." Haciendas, Roses, and Chaski Antawa (Messenger Train) 2 Days / 1 Night - Departing Quito on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays Day 1-This scenic journey takes you from Quito, the capital of Ecuador to the rose plantations, which have made Ecuador one of the largest exporters of roses in the world and to a colonial hacienda that was built in the 17th century. We will also pass through the Valley of Cayambe, the Ecuadorian province of Imbabura, Lake area of San Pablo, as well as the world famous indigenous market of Otavalo, which has been prosperous for over 500 years. Continue to the village of Peguche, with its traditional looms and finally the town of Iluman, famous for its handmade hats. Day 2-Today you will be taking the Chaski Antawa Train (aka "The Messenger Train"), where you will be on tracks built at the turn of the 20th century, which connects the highlands region with the tropical coast of Ecuador. The train then descends down to the dry valley of Ambuqui, and continues traveling through sugar cane farms and plantations, magical landscapes, tunnels and bridge crossings that span across large canyons and gullies. The 26 km ride to Salinas takes you from an altitude of 2,200 meters down to 1,500 meters above sea level (7,216 ft to 4,290 ft) in just 2 hours. Another local community which you will be able to see is the village of Mascarilla; an African-Ecuadorian citizen community known for its clay masks.

Visit the village-weaving center of the Salasaca Indians. Continue to Banos, high above the Amazon Basin. Accomodations are at the lovely Luna Runtun Resort, where available activities include photography, hiking, biking, trekking, river rafting, horseback-riding and spa treatments (at an extra cost). Banos is steeped in Incan and pre-Columbian history and legend. The Cloud Forest offers unusual opportunities for lovers of nature. The towering cliffs, pristine waterfalls, ancient thermal baths, flora, and fauna, create dramatic scenes for photography and pure enjoyment. The program includes ground transportation round-trip from your hotel in Quito, accommodations at the exquisite Luna Runtun Resort, a choice of activities at the resort and all meals, while at the resort.
Lima, Cuzco, & Machu Picchu, Peru 5 Days / 4 Night - Daily Departures Fly to Lima, Peru "the city of kings" and spend one night at the Country Club Hotel or another 5-star property. The next morning, you will be flying to Cuzco, Peru, once the capital city and religious center of the mighty Incan Empire. Cusco is also the gateway to Machu Picchu. Take a guided tour of Cuzco in the afternoon, after acclimating to the altitude, highlighting Cuzco's fascinating Incan and Spanish treasures which are amazing. Overnight at the Hotel Libertador, the former palace of Francisco Pizarro, the conqueror and Vice-king of Peru. Early the next morning, you will be transferred to the "Peru Rail" train station, to begin your rail adventure to Peru's foremost destination - Machu Pichhu. You will then be taken on a guided tour of the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, which remained hidden for centuries until accidentally discovered in 1912. Lunch is included at Machu Picchu. Spend an overnight at the Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo or Sumaq Hotel. After a morning of further exploration of the ruins (this time on your own), return to Cuzco in the afternoon by train, overnight in Cuzco. The next morning, you will be transferred from the Libertador to the Cusco airport then fly to Lima. From Lima, you can continue on another custom trip extension by Galapagos Legend. The program includes all transfers, accomodations at a deluxe hotel in Lima (1 night), Cuzco (2 nights) and Machu Picchu (1 night), guided sightseeing tours in Cuzco and Machu Picchu, round-trip train tickets, daily breakfast at the hotel´s restaurant and lunch at Machu Picchu. Amazon Sacha Lodge 4 Days / 3 Night - Friday to Monday 5 Days / 4 Nights - Monday to Friday The Sacha Lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon makes a very nice continuation of your customized Tour of Ecuador and South America. Right from the start, you will be seeing and viewing some of the world's most beautiful rainforest scenery. The lodge is located just about 20 kilometers downstream from the small Amazonian town of Coca, which is just around 20 or so minutes from the main Napo River waters. The lodge was built from many different varieties of jungle and other Amazon materials by the local Indigenous communities and tribes. Many of the current guides and employees that now work at the lodge full-time are local inhabitants. Enjoy a cabana, with electricity, which is very important to have in the Amazon region and hot water in your private bathroom. It is a must to visit the butterfly farm, which is responsible for exporting butterflies to the world, which is located within the area of the Sacha Amazon Lodge. You will find several thousand different colored butterflies for your viewing enjoyment. The Sacha Lodge's jungle canopy walkway is the only one in the Ecuadorian Amazon region and it is about a 40-minute nature walk away from the lodge. The jungle canopy walkway is suspended several hundred feet above the base ground, allowing for ample bird-watching, where you will be able to see 100's of species of birds. Also enjoy a short hand-carved canoe ride then a short soft hike to get to the famous rainforest tower, which was constructed around a massive kapok tree, a truly impressive site.
